Bushnell Hybrid Golf Laser Rangefinder + GPS Black, Large

The Bushnell Hybrid GPS Rangefinders is a dual-sourced, integrated laser/GPS rangefinders that will provide accurate information about the distance to any object. This version of the hybrid rangefinder has made some improvements to previous models which include integrating both GPS distances and laser distance on the same screen, adding JOLT technology, and improved accuracy over older models.

It is accurate to one yard and has a 400-yard range to the flag.It also displays front, center, and back distances as well as up to four hazard distances per hole on the fairway.

It comes preloaded with 36,000 courses across 30 countries and can be updated, as well as a couple of other cool features such as Auto course recognition, auto hole advance, and automatic course updates via Bluetooth.

One concern with this unit is the rechargeable battery life on both GPS and laser modes. With no ability to use the without GPS function, it laser rangefinder function does stretch the battery and it is wise to charge before every use.

There is also a very minor issue with the rubber eyepiece coming off as you pull the unit from the case. Just a small frustration, but it’s there nonetheless.

All things considered, it is a great product for those that want a GPS technology combo device, n all-in-one dual-source integrated laser/GPS range-finding device.

As you would expect, Bushnell has done a good job with this product and it is worth considering if you are in the market for one.

How its works?

As a dual laser rangefinder and GPS unit , the Hybrid is able to measure distances to targets with great accuracy, as well as track your location on the golf course.

The PinSeeker mode helps you zero in on the flagstick without acquiring background targets, and the JOLT Technology provides a short vibration to let you know when you’ve locked onto the flag.

The exterior GPS readout includes front/center/back distances, and up to 4 hazard distances per hole. The HYBRID is also preloaded with 36,000 plus courses in 30 countries and can be updated with the latest courses automatically via Bluetooth. Finally, the HYBRID recognizes the course you’re playing automatically, and will automatically advance to the next hole.

When you switch on the Bushnell Hybrid gps laser , an aiming circle will appear in the center of the viewing screen. Place this circle over your target and hold down the FIRE button-the HYBRID will then measure the distance to that target and display it in the bottom of the screen. Once activated, the LCD will remain active and display the last distance measurement for 10 seconds.

For more specific details on this, you can refer to the product manual.

Key features

Fully Integrated Laser/GPS Display

The Hybrid is the first Golf Laser Rangefinder and GPS combination gadget with a fully integrated display that shows both laser and GPS data readings.

PinSeeker with JOLT Technology

One thing about Bushnell rangefinders I think is pretty unanimously loved. The JOLT Technology. When this mode is activated, the rangefinder uses pin seeker technology and sends short pulses of vibration to your hand letting you know you have locked onto the flag.

Preloaded with 36,000+ Courses with Auto Course Recognition and Auto Hole Advance

The hybrid comes preloaded with 36,000+ courses in more than 30 countries. As new courses are developed or updated on existing layouts, you’ll automatically receive the latest data your app and Bluetooth.

Also, Hybrid automatically recognizes the course you’re on, while also keeping track of where you are in the round.

Ease of set up and use

The Bushnell Hybrid gps laser Rangepresser comes with a pretty good instruction manual, so it does not require much reading to figure out how everything works.

First, be sure the battery has a full charge. Next, make sure you are outdoors, in a location with a clear view of the sky overhead, to ensure good reception of GPS satellite signals. Now, you’re ready to power up and use your Hybrid GPS feature.

Press and hold the GOLF button on the side of the unit until it powers on.

The gps screen will show the Main Menu, with three items listed: PLAY GOLF, BLUETOOTH and SET UP. To navigate through the display menu system, use UP/DOWN buttons to highlight the desired menu item, then press SELECT.

As everything you need is pre-loaded, all you have to do is choose PLAY GOLF and you’re good to go.

App and WiFi

To get the most out of the hybrid rangefinder you will need to download the Bushnell laser Golf app which is available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Just download the app and pair your device using the Bluetooth connection and you are good to go. To pair the device hit the menu button on the top left of the unit and select Bluetooth.

Just make sure you also have Bluetooth turned on on your phone as well … not that I would ever make that error and spend a lot of time wondering why it won’t work. That’s a lie, that is exactly what I did!

Performance

As you would expect from a Bushnell product, the performance is excellent. The optics are clear and the distances are easy to read. The Bushnell Hybrid is also water-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about it getting wet on a rainy day.

The inclusion of the fully integrated display featuring laser and GPS yardages was really handy for blind shots where you have no clear line of sight to the pin, although the GPS accuracy was a little off, but only by a couple of yards at most. The laser is certainly more accurate.

I love the fact that it also includes the distances to the front and back of the green as well as showing the distance to the pin. And of course, the JOLT technology is always a winner.

As I mentioned previously, the battery isn’t the best, but that’s not too much of a worry with a little organization and pre-planning.

In the hand, the Bushnell Hybrid is slightly thicker than the Tour V4, but not by much. This size fits well feels normal, while also being fairly light. It won’t be weighing you down, that’s for sure.

Overall, I can’t grumble about this. If you want a hybrid 2-in-1 rangefinder and GPS, so you don’t have to worry about carrying GPS devices around the course, this is certainly a great option.

Maintenance

Write about how to keep your rangefinder in good condition

The Bushnell Hybrid laser Rangefinders is a sturdy product and if looked after properly, will last for a very long time. To keep your rangefinder in good condition, it is important to just follow a few simple good practices.

  • Avoid exposing it to extreme environmental conditions for a prolonged period of time.
  • The rangefinder is IPX4 rated which means it can resist splashes or water and rain but should never be submerged, it is not waterproof.
  • Try to avoid severe impacts, so keep it protected if it is in your bag.
  • Avoid cleaning it with strong chemicals.
  • Store the rangefinder in a dry place when it is not in use.

If you follow the above with a bit of common sense, it will be helping you on the course for many years to come.

Cleaning the lens

One thing you may need to do is clean the optics from time to time. To do this, first gently blow away any dust or debris on the monocular objective and eyepiece lenses.

If there is any dirt or fingerprints, you can clean it with soft cotton or microfiber cloth. Just make sure to rub in a circular motion so you don’t damage the lens surface. If you need to do a more thorough cleaning, you can use photographic lens tissue and cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol. Just make sure to apply the fluid to the cloth and not directly on the lens.

A couple of alternatives

Garmin Approach Z82

If you have a little bit of wiggle room in your budget, another great GPS and Laser rangefinder combo is the Garmin Approach Z82. The laser range finder with GPS is a little more expensive than the Bushnell, but it is probably the most accurate golf range finder on the market, with an impressive 10” margin of error.

The image stabilization makes it easy to pinpoint your target, and you’ll appreciate the vibrational feedback that tells you when you’ve got a lock on the flag. Plus, the full-color CourseView mapping provides 41,000 worldwide courses at your fingertips. And if you’re ever in doubt about a hazards placement, just use the Hazard View feature to scroll through each one quickly and easily.

Callaway Hybrid Laser-GPS Rangefinder

If you want to save a little, the Callaway Hybrid Laser-GPS Rangefinder retails for around $80 – $100 less than the Bushnell but offers many of the same features and is also a well-respected name in golf.

With its advanced Pin Acquisition Technology and Pulse Confirmation, you can easily zoom in on your target and get accurate yardages, even in difficult conditions. Plus, the Dual Powered Design ensures that you’ll always have power when you need it. And with over 38,000 global course maps preloaded, you’ll never be lost on the green again.
